Open Belgian Championship Report
Races started on a beautiful national holiday : sunny and 14 - 16 knots westerly breeze. Two races were sailed. Jacob made a strong impression, and took the lead, Bernard and Hans followed lagging at least 7 points on the first day. Simon, reigning champion, had a bad first race and broke his mast shortly after the start of the second race.
Three Races were held on the second day of the Belgian Championship. The wind was light, 10 knots, and veering and ondulating from WNW to N. With a new mast, Simon performed very well and chases Jacob with a 3 points difference. Jan, from Sitges, Spain, showed his skills in the final two races, dueling with Simon for the first place. Bernard moved to the third place, and a very impressive performance of his son Baptiste !
It was already 17:30 when the first competitors headed for the beach. They were welcomed by an anti-doping control ! Declarations were made and urine samples taken.
The Championship Dinner was delicious as usual : all competitors and their family and partners experienced a most funny evening in the astonishing surroundings of Twinsclub.
Sunday, the last day of the Championship, was sunny and the wind was WNW, 15 knots increasing slightly during the afternoon. Again, Simon and Jan took consecutively the first place. With a 4° place in the first race, Jacob had to give the leadership to Simon, who became the Belgian Champion and winner of The Belgian Champion Trophy for the fourth time.
All competitors want to express their gratefulness to the excellent work of the Race Committe and Jury ( led by Dirk and Vic and Bea ), to all the staff of Twinsclub, to the likeable nosepasa volunteers of Race Secretariat and to all sponsors supporting the Championship and the prize table.
